The project sought to contribute to the rational development of water resources in the Oum-er-R'bia basin and to meeting the growing demand for electric power, industrial and potable water and water for irrigation development through the construction of: (a) the Al-Massira dam at Sidi Cheho; (b) a 120 MW power station with an adjacent 225 kV substation; (c) about 200 km of 225 kV transmission lines; and through the preparation of preliminary designs and bid documents for the Merifa dam and power station.
