Cape Verde is facing a number of constraints in relation to its energy sector, as much of the electricity infrastructure on each island has exceeded its useful life span. Many communities lack access to electrical power and rely on unsafe alternatives such as biomass, fuelwood and kerosene.
The project will target the islands of Santo Antao, Fogo, Sao Nicolau and Boa Vista, where new power generators will be installed and separate distribution networks created. Additionally, connections will be provided to unserved villages. In addition to enhancing the living conditions of thousands of inhabitants, a reliable supply of electrical power will help spur economic development among the islands.
