The grant was extended in support of the Development of Common Strategies and Improved Capacities for the Protection of Biological Resources in Africa sponsored by the Organization of African Unity. One East-African sub-regional and one West-African sub-regional workshop were held followed by a regional workshop which aimed at elaborating a common African position as regards the development of legislation. The objective was to protect community rights, particularly on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPs).
