Electricity consumption in Pakistan has risen considerably over the past five years. However, transmission and distribution losses are high, leading to widespread blackouts. Presently, only around 60% of the population is connected to the national grid. The project will thus carry out the following activities:

  • construction of a 969 MW hydropower plant in Muzaffarad District, which is situated on the banks of the Jhelum and Neelum rivers in the north; and
  • construction of a tunnel, a diversion weir and concrete gravity dam.
Upon completion, the population will be provided with a reliable and efficient source of power, which will also help encourage the development of local industries and boost socio-economic development.
