Although agriculture plays a key role in Vietnam's economy, rural poverty is high, due in part to a irregular water supplies. This situation is especially prevalent in the Ninh Hai district, situated in the Ninh Thuan Province. The project will carry out the following works: construction of a reservoir with a storage capacity of 31 million m3 of water on the Trau River; construction of some 55-km of irrigation canals; relocation of about 370 householdsto a new community equipped with social amenities; provision of agricultural extension services; upgrading and repair of the irrigation network. The project will benefit numerous farming communities who will be able to enjoy increased food production and higher incomes, as well a safe supply of drinking water.
