The project includes the preparation of a master plan for an international airport, the repair and resurfacing of the existing runway together with a 350 meter extension, the construction of a control tower, a terminal building and other ancillary structure as well as the provision of the necessary equipment. An efficient system of an air transport is essential to the Maldives, and archipelago spread over a thousand islands. The airport is expected to encourage tourism and facilities movement of commodities.
