Environmental and Social Information

OPEC Fund's ESG Policy and Environmental and Social Exclusion List (ESEL) will apply. Following the environmental and social (ES) screening, the Project has been assigned Category A, due to the significant impacts related to the civil works of the operation.

An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) including an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) has been completed which adequately covers the main ES risks and impacts. There will be no physical displacement of persons/families and there are no critical habitats in the project’s impact area.

The main implementing entity, has a GRM in place which is functional. The GRM is based on the existing local government structure which includes participation of the different community groups in the area. Consultations with the community were done early during project preparation, and these consultations have continued throughout the subsequent phases identification and planning and will continue through implementation.
