The general objective of this project was to enhance the learning environment in eight selected public schools in five governorates in Jordan, particularly ones that face increasing burdens due to the large number of enrolled Syrian refugee pupils. The OFID grant covered the construction and renovation of classrooms, washrooms and other school spaces, with works focusing on student and teacher common rooms, sanitation units, doors, electrical units, partitions, playgrounds, protective fences, and tile replacements. the project achieved the intended aims, and succeeded in achieving the three objectives of making schools healthier, safer, more conducive to learning, and aesthetically more appealing; contributing to and promoting more meaningful engagement by students and teachers and a fulfilling learning experience. Impact: Initially, 3,200 students and a minimum of 250 teachers were expected to benefit upon completion of the program; both of these targets were over-achieved, with 4,446 students (460 of whom were Syrian), 304 teachers, and 71 administrative staff in total benefitting.
