The project aimed to to enhance the resilience of host communities and improve the living conditions of both local residents and refugees hosted in the district of Cox’s Bazar. Its specific objectives were to provide safe and sustainable shelter and settlement solutions. To this end, the Project involved the procurement of durable construction materials for the upgrading of existing shelter and building of new structures, technical assistance and training of carpenters and other construction workers. Project Outputs: The grant contributed to the Shelter, and Livelihoods and basic needs programmes, per the following outcomes: • Shelter - Outcome 1: Communities in disaster and crisis affected areas restore and strengthen their safety,well-being and longer-term recovery through shelter and settlement solutions. • Livelihoods and basic needs - Outcome 2: Communities, especially in disaster and crisis affected areas, restore and strengthen their livelihoods. The project met its objectives, whereby the segment supported by the OPEC Fund of the shelter programme provided 225 safe shelters to vulnerable households in host communities and 330 units of transitional shelter assistance to camp communities, and support to increase the awareness of the affected households. With the funds, assistance was also provided to build the capacity of the communities on safe shelter design, construction and settlement planning. Additionally, unconditional cash grants were provided to 294 households in host communities.
