This project aims at providing underserved areas with an affordable, reliable source of electricity. This will be achieved though the following:
- implementation of a pilot scheme in the capital Maputo to test a lower voltage network for potential use in other areas;
- rehabilitation of the primary distribution network network;
- upgrading substations in Matola and Chimoi;
- extension of the distribution network in peri-urban sites at Matola, Nampula, Chimoi,Tete and Pemba;
- installation of customer connections;
- implementation and/or scaling up of small- and medium-sized investments in renewable energy sources; and
- institution-strengthening and capacity-building measures.
