One of Uganda’s major development challenges is the country’s low electrification rates, which stand at around 10% countrywide and just 4% in rural areas. This situation severely constrains socio-economic development and perpetuates poverty. The project will carry out rural electrification works in the central and northern regions of Uganda. Nearly 15,000 new connections will be installed in households, trading centers, hospitals, health centers, schools and fish processing centers. In addition to helping boost household incomes and living standard, the provision of electrical power will save families a significant amount of money previously spent on less efficient and less safe energy sources such as kerosene lamps, fuelwood and batteries.
