The grant was approved as a gesture of solidarity and empathy towards the people impacted by Hurricane Eta in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua and will be channeled through the IFRC. The OPEC Fund Grants was extended in support of a broader IFRC relief operation targeting 102,500 people (20,500 families) in the 3 affected countries. The grant proceeds were used to support livelihoods and basic needs, water/sanitation, health and shelter relief.
