This project will supply underserved communities with a reliable supply of energy through the rehabilitation of over 60 electricity distribution networks. To ensure the sustainability of the project, a community outreach program carry out seminars and meetings with local leaders, communities and institutions on a wide range of issues including reduction of illegal electricity connections, safety, legal rights and energy conservation. Around 620,000 people presently reliant on expensive and less-reliable energy sources such as kerosene, oil lamps, generators, and so on, are expected to benefit from the project. Other benefits include:

  • increased income-generating activities
  • reduction of indoor air pollution and related respiratory illnesses
  • reduced risk of fire
  • wider use of street lighting, thus improving safety, especially among women and children
  • better educational performance by children will be able to study for longer periods of time
