The project is designed to distribute surplus electricity from Ras Katnib Power Station in the west to the cities of Ibb and Taiz in the south via the power distribution system of the cities of Sana'a and Dhamar. It comprises the construction of a 145 km transmission line from Dhamar to Ibb and Taiz and two substations in the two cities.
The socio-economic benefits expected from the project include reduced oil imports, increased local employment and training opportunities, agricultural and industrial expansion through increased efficiency brought on by the use of electricity, and improved living conditions for the people in the project area.
