The objective of this project is to improve food security in the deprived central mountains regions (the provinces of Vientiane, Boukhamxay, Houp-Phanh, Xiang Khoung and Xaysomboum).

  • construction or upgrading of 70 community-managed irrigation (CMI) schemes, thus improving irrigation for around 3,800 hectares;
  • construction of 90 km of rural access roads and 60 km of district feeder roads that will link to marketplaces.
The CMI schemes will be community based; community participation will be effective from the planning stage, to implementation and to operation and maintenance.
