The project promoted the adoption and utilization of LPG for clean cooking across the 15 ECOWAS countries. It consisted of two sub-projects: • A “Bottled Gas for Better Life” Pilot Project in Cameroon: • Development of a Strategy on clean cooking with LPG, for the 15 ECOWAS States: On the first component, the project helped in learning a lot in terms of viable microfinance approaches to consumer financing in the LPG sector for lower income households. It has helped to expand work with key microfinance institutions in Cameroon. The project benefitted 800 low-income households across six rural, peri-urban and urban areas in Anglophone and Francophone regions of Cameroon. In addition, the results will guide future consumer empowerment actions in support of the Cameroon Government's announced goal of 58% of the population using LPG for household cooking by 2030, as well as similar goals in other countries. On the second component, there have been two major accomplishments: 1. GLPGP provided extensive input on the detailed "Development of a Regional Strategy to Promote the Use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as Cooking Energy in the ECOWAS Region" report. ECREEE indicated that GLPGP’s input was extremely helpful and GLPGP’s expert inputs were incorporated into the final document. 1. GLPGP provided detailed technical inputs on the initial diagnostic report prepared by the EC’s Nigerian consultant.
