In 2008, OFID co-financed a project aimed at reducing rural poverty in the Dominican-Haitian Border region. The original scope of the project, however, has been expanded. Activities will focus on four main components, which include:

  • improving access of economic organizations’ access to local, regional, national and export markets;
  • institution-strengthening and capacity-building among economic organizations;
  • promotion of technological innovation and diversification schemes, such as the provision of technical support and on-the-job training;
  • carrying out of rural finance schemes.
Over 19,000 impoverished households are expected to benefit from higher incomes, better standard of living and improved food security.
