This project aims at fostering socio-economic development of the Dosso and Gaya provinces in the southwest and promote regional integration between Niger, Benin and Nigeria. The population in the primarily-rural project area earn their livelihood from agricultural, stock breeding and trading activities. The majority of the road network in the area, however, is unpaved and is unusable during the rainy season, thus preventing the movement of produce to marketplaces and limiting the population's earning potential. Works to be carried out under the project include:

  • rehabilitation of a 73.4 km-long, 10 m-wide road with a paved surface;
  • installation of drainage facilities to prevent flooding;
  • installation of safety devices such as signs, lighting and guard rails;
  • carrying out of environmental protection measures such as planting trees and creation of water catchments;
  • promotion of road safety awareness; and
  • consultancy services.
One completion, the improved road will help farmers raise agricultural production and enable the population to reach vital social services.
