Khan Younis Municipality was founded in 1917, and is the second largest city in the Gaza Strip with approximately 200,000 inhabitants. It is the capital and commercial center of the south with most of the governmental institutions which service the southern region. It is a coastal city and depends largely on agriculture and trade. Grant is to co-finance The Establishment of Water Desalination Plant in Khan Younis, to secure clean drinking water for 70,000 inhabitants. The project covers the procurement of equipment and tools for the plant and training of technical staff and laborers.
