This project will construct the country’s first radiotherapy facility at Asmara’s Orota Hospital, the capital city’s main referral hospital. Works will include:

  • purchase of equipment necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, including chemotherapy;
  • hiring of specialist staff such as oncologists, medical physicists and radiation therapy technicians;
  • provision of training torelated staff; and
  • expansion of cancer prevention and control programs.
The new facility is expected to provide treatment to some 1,800 patients annually.
