With a customer base of close to 2.8 million, Mobitel is the leading cell phone operator in the Sudan. This loan facility will be used to expand the network to some 250 additional cities and towns across Sudan, as well as to build call centers, and develop and upgrade customer service locations. The project will have a number of important developmental aspects, most notably greater access to telecommunication services, particularly in rural areas. Improvements to the telephone infrastructure are also expected to enhance the overall business environment and, at the same time, bring a number of social benefits through improved means of communication.
