Although Burkina Faso possesses fertile agriculture land, the country’s erratic rainfall and frequent drought compromises crop yields. The project will therefore target activities in six provinces (Bougouriba, Ioba, Noumbiel, Poni, Sissili and Nahouri) that border Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

Some 900 ha of fertile land will be developed through the construction and/or refurbishment of small-scale irrigation schemes and the building of dams. Microfinancing and other assistance will be provided to farmers to help them raise yields. On completion, approximately 850,000 inhabitants from over 1,366 villages will benefit from the newly developed land.
