After experiencing years of civil unrest, Angola is striving to boost its ailing education sector. Infrastructure is dilapidated and unable to cope with rising enrolments. Two seriously affected provinces are Uige and Kwanza Sul, where more than one-half of the two million-strong population is under the age of 15. The project therefore carry out the following activities:

  • construction, equipping and furnishing of five 1,640 m2 lower secondary schools, with each containing 12 classrooms;
  • procurement of teaching and learning materials; and
  • capacity-building activities, including in-service training for teachers and administrative and maintenance staff.
The project is expected to benefit at least 4,800 students.
