This project will improve a total of 143 km of roads that pass through Houaphanh Province, located in a mountainous area in the northeast. Houaphanh is one of the country's poorest provinces and is populated by approximately 325,000 people.
The overall objective of the project is to reduce poverty by increasing the population's access to social services and marketplaces, as well as improve connectivity both within the country and between Thailand and Vietnam. This will be achieved by:
- rehabilitation, upgrading and surfacing of a total of 143 km of roads with a bituminous surface
- replacement of structurally inadequate and narrow bridges and culverts
- re-aligning sections where there are hazardous curves
- resettlement of communities affected by the civil works;
- provision of weighing stations an
- consultancy services
