Despite its abundant rainfall and plentiful water resources, water supply services in Sao Tome and Principe are deficient, with only around 16% of the population having access to potable water.
In line with Government’s strategy to revive the water sector, the project will build and rehabilitate infrastructure at the country’s main water intake sources: the Agua Agriao and Agua Amoreira situated in the capital Sao Tome. In addition to constructing water treatment stations, the project will install pipe networks, repair reservoirs and increase the number of household connections. In addition to raising living standards and improving health, the project will help free up hours of time villagers previously spent collecting water.
