One of Sudan’s major irrigation systems is the El Rahad scheme, which covers an area of around 127,000 ha. Over the past decade, crop productivity has declined due to the combination of under-maintenance and aging equipment. The project will thus carry out the following:
- repair of drainage systems, canal regulators and other related structures
- replacement of equipment at pumping stations
- procurement of spare parts procured and
- capacity building and institution strengthening measures at the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources
