The main objective of the project is to increase the annual production of white sugar from 18,000 to 51,000 tons and to increase the supply of cane commensurately. This integrated project covers several aspects of sugar production from agriculture, with the necessary irrigation and drainage works, to transport, with the construction of a network of farm and feeder roads, to industry, with the provision of a new sugar factory, ancillary works and laboratires. Existing facilities will also be rehabiliated. The benefits of the project are increased output and employment. The agricultural component will benefit some 10,000 farmers and the other components are also expected to create significant employment opportunities. The economic rate of return is estimated at 18%.
