Environmental and Social Information

 

 

OPEC Fund's ESG Policy and Environmental and Social Exclusion List (ESEL) will apply. Following the environmental and social due diligence of the project is re-categorized as Category B. The scale and significance of the ES risks have been verified to be moderate. As required by the ESG Policy of OPEC Fund, an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) including an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) have been prepared.

The ES risks of the project stem from the proposed civil works on 89 acres of land. Tenant farmers who were originally using the land as pasture and farmland  have been given alternate lands to farm by the former owner of the land. 39 tenant farmers who were originally using the land as pasture and farmland. They have been given alternate lands to farm by the former owner of the land.

There is a Grievance Redress Mechanism initially established in December 2020 as part of the OECS Regional Health Project, supported by the World Bank. This GRM remain functional. Consultations have been carried out as part of the ESIA preparation as required by local EIA regulations.
