This project will construct a new 250-bed hospital to serve the 250,000-strong population of Nkhata Bay district in northern Malawi. The hospital will offer a full range of healthcare, from general and specialized out-patient clinics, to surgery, diagnostic services and a 24-hour emergency unit. Particular emphasis will be placed on the treatment of communicable diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, as well as on maternity and infant care. The project will also provide facilities for in-service training together with on-site accommodation for staff and students.
