The project comprises the installation of a fifth turbine-generator unit (40 MW capacity) at the Nam Ngum hydroeletric plant, the strengthening of the institutional capacity of EDL, and assistance to the Government of Laos and EDL in formulating long-term energy strategy. In addition to adding to the electricity generation capacity of Laos, the project will enable it to export energy to neighboring Thailand, thus strengthening regional economic cooperation between the two countries.
