This project’s objective is to reduce poverty and enhance economic growth by improving regional interconnectivity. This will, in turn, lead to an increase of exports and raise the import of goods, thereby boosting economic activity. Works will include construction of a 17km highway, underpasses and bridges and installation of drainage structures to prevent flooding. When completed, around 250,000 Swazis are expected to directly benefit from the project in terms of economic activities and reduced travel cost and time. The road also connects the main tourist and social infrastructure situated in Manzini municipality as well as linking Manzini and Matsapha with Burundi's largest trading partner, South Africa. In addition, the new highway will provide easy access to the Sikhuphe International airport.
