The project will carry out works in the southern Kayes region, which is rich in agricultural and mineral resources but its potential is constrained owing to the poor quality of its roads. Works will include construction/rehabilitation of the 150-km-long Kayes–Diamou–Bafoulabé Road and concrete culverts. Major drainage works will be done at river crossings and one major bridge built over the Senegal River to replace the use of ferries. On completion, the project is expected to improve national and international traffic, enhance economic exchange between various areas of the country and beyond. It will also offer improved access to social services and employment opportunities.
