The handling capacity of the Kasane airport is limited, as its single-story passenger terminal is just 1,296 m2 in size. In addition, the facility’s runway is only able to accommodate small aircraft. Government’s aim is to develop the aviation industry to enhance the tourism sector and create job opportunities.
The project will support this goal by expanding and upgrading the airport to boost annual transport capacity from 50,000 to 400,000 people. This will be achieved by, among other works, rehabilitating and extending the runway and installing an airfield ground lighting system, as well and expanding the existing apron.
