This project will construct a reservoir and irrigation infrastructure in Kalu Ganga, which is located in the dry zone in central Sri Lanka. A main dam and two saddle dams will be built, and irrigation schemes installed to develop 2,070 ha of new land. A resettlement scheme is also planned for approximately 797 families. Some 16 km of new roads will be built to replace roads that will be affected by the new reservoir.
In addition to improving the population’s access to irrigation and drinking water, the project will help reduce poverty as a result of the anticipated rise in household incomes from increased yields.
