The existing 50-bed Hithadhoo Regional Hospital in the Addu atoll of the southern region is only equipped to handle routine medical service, necessitating the movement of patients via airplane to the capital Malé for major treatment. In order to improve the health standards for over 76,000 people, the project will build a new, 100-bed hospital that will deliver a wide range of specialized medical services, in- and out-patient care, as well as emergency services and intensive care. The provision of improved-quality medical care will improve the quality of life for the beneficiary population, reduce morbidity rates and contribute to overall poverty reduction.
