The Gore-Gambella road represents one of Ethiopia's most important west-east links, passing through rich agricultural areas where important food and cash crops are grown. Some 145-km in length, this gravel road has deteriorated to a point where travel is dangerous and virtually impossible during heavy rains, halting income generation and leaving villages isolated.
Under the project, the entire stretch will be paved and drainage structures installed to insure year-round travel, and worn bridges will be repaired. Once completed, some 200,000 people living in the project area will enjoy safer, more efficient travel.
