Populated by about 40,000 people, Fogo is Cape Verde’s fourth largest island. The 80.5 km-long Fogo Ring Road, part of the country’s main network that encircles the island, is in urgent need of upgrading. Rehabilitation of the road will be carried out in two phases. The first will entail paving the 63.1 km-long São Felipe–Cova Figueira stretch.
Upon completion, the population will be able to enjoy improved access to social amenities and employment opportunities, as well as the port and airport at Fogo’s capital city, São Felipe. It is also anticipated that the agricultural sector will receive a boost from the swifter transport of perishable goods to marketplaces.
