The project goal was to improve food security, reduce poverty and natural resource degradation, and enhance rates of rural economic development in Southern Africa through the delivery of integrated aquaculture-agriculture. Specific objectives included to expand adoption of integrated aquaculture-agriculture by 5,000 poor farmers through aquaculture development zones and access to start-up capital, increase access by poor farmers to technologies for integration of aquaculture into smallholder farming systems, and to strengthen capacity of national and local institutions to better disseminate science based solutions, including credit management systems, to ensure sustainable rural socio-economic development.
