This project, which OFID is financing with two loans totaling $40 million will construct a new electric power station to the south of the capital, Cairo. The new plant will be equipped with two steam turbine units, each with a generating capacity of 350 MW. Scheduled for commissioning in 2010, the plant will be connected to the national grid. This will increase the country’s total power generation capacity and help alleviate electricity shortages, which represent one of the main constraints to Egypt’s economic development.
