This project was aimed to enhance access of refugee children and disadvantaged children from the host community to formal and non-formal education. It also aimed to provide psycho-social support and protection to extremely vulnerable children from these groups. It was initially intended to benefit 1,700 Palestinian and Syrian refugee children in addition to disadvantaged children from the Lebanese host community in Southern Lebanon and Mount Lebanon. The project exceeded the planned targets under some indicators and activities, such as the provision of necessary educational materials and tools for children and schools; the distribution of healthy meals and food parcels; distribution of hygiene kits. However, activities of a more interactive nature, such as active learning sessions for children, or awareness and training against child abuse, or art and sports activities. The approval of the OPEC Fund was obtained ahead of making those modifications to the implementation plan. Overall, and considering the challenging circumstances (pre-existing instability in Lebanon, COVID-19 outbreak, and the Beirut Port explosion in August 2020), the project mostly delivered the intended impact on the beneficiary children.
