Under the project, the 176 km-long road will be upgraded to all-weather standard and built on an elevated embankment with culverts and drainage ditches. For increased safety, road markings and signs will be provided.
Once completed, the road will facilitate the transportation of goods and people, thus eliminating one of the greatest barriers to the economic integration of the Koulikoro and Kayes regions. Previously isolated villages will be able to access markets as well as health care, education and employment opportunities. In addition to accommodating domestic traffic, the road will help boost trade between Mali and Mauritania.
