Many roads in Bangladesh are in such poor condition that the movement of agricultural goods and passenger traffic is dangerous and slow. One such road is the 30 km Dhaka – Mawa stretch on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. Project works will therefore include the following: upgrading the Dhaka – Mawa road to all-weather standard installation of drainage systems and elevation of some sections to prevent flooding; widening of road shoulders and re-surfacing to accommodate non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians Once completed, the road will contribute to improving incomes and opportunities for the local population by lowering transportation costs and providing better access to markets, social services and job opportunities.
