The Bumbana hydropower complex has been identified by government as a priority investment. Close to completion in 1997 when construction was suspended because of the war, the plant includes a dam, 50 MW power station and transmission system. The latter component will be co-financed with the OFID loan. Once commissioned, the plant will provide an adequate and reliable supply of electricity to the densely populated western area of the country, including the capital Freetown. This will boost the economy, improve the delivery of government services and generally lead to improved living standards for the population.
