Banjul International Airport is The Gambia’s only airport and plays a vital role in the tourism sector, an important revenue generator. Phase I carried out repair and construction works, although more is necessary to meet present and future travel needs. Phase II will increase the airport’s concrete taxi areas to accommodate additional aircraft. This will entail:
- construction of two new corridors that link to the expanded taxiway;
- construction of a new fire and rescue station;
- rehabilitation of arrival and departure terminals;
- upgrading of a control tower; and
- installation of lighting in the taxi area and corridors to improve safety.
