The proposed project aims to enhance access to affordable and reliable modern energy services and promote the productive uses of energy for income-generation in rural areas of Mali, Niger and Senegal. Its specific objective is to provide access to Renewable Energy (RE) Services to rural SMEs run by women and engage them into RE-related income generating activities. To this end, the Project will involve the following activities:
• Capacity building (technical and managerial skills) of women small entepreneurs;
• Promotion of RE services, including: access to micro-credit for SMEs, training for solar PV operators, installation and operation of mini-grids, PV grid extensions as well as Multifunctional Platforms Commercial Exploitation;
• Outreach activities. The proposed project is expected to directly benefit approximately 4,650 small and medium-sized enterprises led by women and 600 women saving-groups. Each saving group has an average of 35 members, therefore the project is expected to directly benefit up to 21,000 women in the three countries.
