Overview

The inaugural International Finance and Development Legal Conference themed “The Changing Development Landscape: Perspectives, Risks, and Opportunities” will take place on October 7-8, 2024 in Vienna.

Over the course of these two days, lawyers from various International Financial Institutions (IFIs) will discuss a broad range of topics relevant to IFI legal practice, explore contemporary challenges as well as the opportunities they present, and build meaningful connections, laying the groundwork for stronger and more effective collaboration to deliver development outcomes.

The conference includes two plenary sessions and eight focus sessions. Each session will feature subject matter experts that will take a deep dive into the topic, share their experiences, and engage in interactive exchanges to enrich participants’ understanding of the relevant topic. 

• Day 1 sessions will cover litigation involving IFIs and access to remedy, private capital mobilization, complexities of concessional finance and donor requirements, as well as how to navigate an IFI career.
• Day 2 sessions will delve into topics such as AI and legal operations, preferred creditor status, internal justice systems of IFIs, legal and institutional reforms, as well as legal, policy and practical challenges in delivering IFIs’ respective mandates. 

A highlight of the conference will be the General Counsels Open Session that will focus on collaboration among IFIs, including the challenges and opportunities.
