OFID’s Al-Herbish concludes career by signing two grant agreements in Jordan

Vienna, Austria, October 29, 2018. OFID - the OPEC Fund for International Development - has concluded a high-level mission to Jordan, during which grant agreements were signed with two partners. OFID Director-General Suleiman J Al-Herbish stated: “I am proud to conclude my tenure at OFID with a humanitarian mission that represents the mandate of our institution.” He referred to the signing of the grant agreements as another milestone in the history of OFID’s cooperation with Jordanian institutions working in different sectors.

A US$400,000 grant was extended to the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) to finance the procurement of specialized diagnostic and treatment equipment, which is expected to benefit over 4,000 patients per year. OFID previously extended two grants totaling US$1 million to the KHCF to help purchase radiology equipment. The agreement was counter-signed by Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of KHCF. Princess Ghida expressed her gratitude for OFID’s generosity: “The support we receive from OFID helps us save patient lives every day. We truly value this empowering partnership, which advances our mission of providing the best treatment to our cancer patients.”

Al-Herbish also signed a US$150,000 grant agreement with the Saudi Center for the Rehabilitation and Training of Blind Girls, which offers education, training and psycho-social support to visually impaired girls from various countries in the region. This grant will help fund expansion and upgrading to accommodate more beneficiaries. Inas Taifi, Director of the Saudi Center, expressed appreciation for OFID’s continued support: “The training and capacity budding programs that we have previously implemented for visually impaired girls with funding from OFID are among the most notable success stories and we take pride in them.”
