Annual Meeting of DFI working group on impact assessment
The Harmonized Indicators for Private Sector Operations (HIPSO) Annual Meeting, hosted at the OPEC Fund in Vienna in May, underscored a simple but important idea: Development impact deepens when institutions learn from each other.
Gathering more than 50 practitioners from global and regional development finance institutions (DFIs), the event focused on strengthening a shared knowledge system to better measure, manage and maximize results across private sector operations.
OPEC Fund Vice President, Strategy Musab Alomar highlighted the growing importance of practical and credible approaches to measuring development impact, particularly as DFIs continue scaling up operations in increasingly complex environments.
Building on HIPSO’s role as a platform for collaboration, the meeting emphasized the value of exchanging experience on impact management systems, market effects and innovative evaluation techniques.
Participants included ADB, AfDB, BII, BOAD, CAF, DEG, DFC, EBRD, FMO, IDB Invest, IFC, OeEB, PIDG, Proparco and others. They explored how to deepen rigor in measurement, while aligning approaches to common challenges such as job creation metrics, impact reporting and analytics. The goal: a stronger collective understanding of trends and more coordinated action through HIPSO workstreams.
